CDC RELEASES HANFORD THYROID STUDY

On January 28, 1999 the Centers For Disease Control released their long awaited thyroid study conducted on those exposed to off site releases of Iodine-131 from the Hanford nuclear weapons complex a generation ago. The study had been billed as a way to provide a final answer to residents downwind of Hanford during those releases about what damages may have resulted to their health. Being conducted and over seen by the Centers For Disease Control (CDC) the study was also claimed to remove any possible conflict of interest between the DOE which had operated Hanford, and which has long been criticized for conducting health studies involving its own facilities.

Now the report has been released it has instead of finally resolving the debate over radiation health effects from Hanford, has instead set off yet another vocal debate over governmental honesty with its radiation health studies.
